 Recovering 99.3% of the Water From a High-Volume Industrial Waste Stream 

Project Spotlight: Midwest Manufacturing Wastewater Treatment 

Large industrial manufacturers need wastewater solutions that can handle significant volume, maintain consistent treatment capacity and support broader environmental goals.

In 2025, a manufacturing operation in the midwestern part of the country serving the mining and quarrying industries sent more than 1.83 million gallons of process wastewater to Valicor for treatment.

Through Valicor’s centralized wastewater treatment capabilities, 99.3% of the water contained in the waste stream was recovered during the treatment process.

The project combined high-volume industrial wastewater treatment with a strong water-recovery outcome, while also being managed through an ISO 14001-certified environmental management framework.

The Project

A large Midwest manufacturing operation generated more than 1.83 million gallons of process wastewater during 2025.

Managing that volume required more than simply finding an outlet. The generator needed reliable treatment capacity, consistent receiving capabilities and a program that could support a substantial recurring waste stream throughout the year.

Valicor provided the centralized wastewater treatment infrastructure needed to receive and process the material while recovering a very high percentage of the water contained within the stream.

The project also demonstrates the value of having access to a broader regional treatment network. High-volume wastewater programs can change over time, and having multiple treatment resources available can provide additional flexibility when volumes, scheduling needs or waste characteristics shift.

More Than 1.83 Million Gallons Treated

During 2025, Valicor received and treated more than 1.83 Million Gallons of process wastewater from the manufacturing operation.

Projects at this scale require treatment technology, receiving capacity, transportation coordination and scheduling to work together.

For a generator producing wastewater consistently throughout the year, a dependable management program can be just as important as the treatment process itself. Material has to keep moving without creating storage problems, production interruptions or unnecessary operational bottlenecks.

Recovering 99.3% of the Water in the Waste Stream

Industrial wastewater can contain much more than water.

Depending on the manufacturing process, a stream may include oils, suspended solids, dissolved materials, process residuals and other constituents that must be separated or treated.

In this project, Valicor’s treatment process recovered 99.3% of the water contained within the incoming waste stream.

That high recovery rate allowed the water portion of the stream to continue through the appropriate downstream management pathway while the remaining constituents were addressed through the treatment process.

For the generator, the result was a wastewater management program that did more than accept a large volume of material. It also recovered nearly all of the water contained within that stream.

Managed Within an ISO 14001-Certified Environmental Framework

The treatment program was supported by Valicor’s ISO 14001-certified environmental management capabilities.

ISO 14001 is an internationally recognized standard for environmental management systems. Certification requires organizations to establish documented processes for identifying environmental impacts, managing compliance obligations, setting environmental objectives, maintaining operational controls and pursuing continual improvement.

For industrial customers, that matters because wastewater management involves more than the equipment used to treat a particular load.

It also involves the systems surrounding that treatment: how environmental risks are identified, how procedures are documented, how performance is monitored and how improvements are incorporated over time.

An ISO 14001-certified operation provides a formal framework for those activities.

Treating millions of gallons of wastewater over the course of a year is an operational challenge as much as a technical one.

Receiving schedules, transportation, available tank capacity and treatment throughput all have to remain coordinated as material is generated.

A successful program has to provide the generator with a dependable outlet while maintaining the flexibility needed to respond when volumes or schedules change.

Industrial wastewater often contains a substantial amount of water along with oils, solids and other process-related constituents.
